This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Exodus 7) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: God inspired Moses to write the first five books in the Bible. The book of Exodus is all about God’s miraculously assisting His special nation (Israel) to leave their 400 year slavery in Egypt in order to return to their promised land. Along the way God provides His people with a special tent of meeting and specific jobs and ceremonies for them to perform to enable Him to remain with them.
God has heard His people’s cry to be released from their 400 year slavery in Egypt. He chooses Moses to lead them out of slavery. But why would the mighty Pharaoh listen to Moses? Why would Pharaoh let his slaves go into the wilderness to worship their God?
Ask the children…
How would Moses and his brother Aaron prove to Pharaoh that they had indeed been sent from God and that Pharaoh had better listen to them?
“Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 9 ‘Pharaoh will demand, ‘Show me a miracle.’'” (Exodus 7:8 )
When Pharaoh didn’t believe this miracle from God of turning a staff into a snake, what did God send on Pharaoh and Egypt?
“Even then Pharaoh will refuse to listen to you. So I will bring down my fist on Egypt. Then I will rescue my forces—my people, the Israelites—from the land of Egypt with great acts of judgment (plagues). 5 When I raise my powerful hand and bring out the Israelites, the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.” (Exodus 7:4, 5)
God is mighty and no human can stand in the way of what He wants to accomplish. God brought 10 plagues on the Egyptians to show that they were not in control, God was. There is no situation in heaven and on earth that God is not in control of.
Ask your children if God they need a miracle of God in their lives? What is it? Why not ask God right now to bring that miracle? One caution, God will bring His miracles at just the right time, so you may need to patiently cry out and wait on God’s timing.
