This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Exodus 26) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: God inspired Moses to write the first five books in the Bible. The book of Exodus is all about God’s miraculously assisting His special nation (Israel) to leave their 400 year slavery in Egypt in order to return to their promised land. Along the way God provides His people with a special tent of meeting and specific jobs and ceremonies for them to perform to enable Him to remain with them.
Every detail of the Tabernacle was specified by God. Nothing was left to chance.
Ask the children…
The Tabernacle was the place where God would dwell. What surrounded it?
“Make the Tabernacle from ten curtains of finely woven linen. Decorate the curtains with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and with skillfully embroidered cherubim.” (Exodus 26:1 )
How big was the Tabernacle?
“These ten curtains must all be exactly the same size—42 feet long and 6 feet wide.” (Exodus 26:2)
The tabernacle was not constructed with solid walls surrounding it, but curtains. These curtains were huge. There was a lot of things that had to happen inside this Tabernacle. God described exactly what size He wanted everything to be on the outside of the Tabernacle and on the inside.
Ask your children if have curtains in their own? Get out a measuring tape and measure how big they are? How big is this compared one of the Tabernacle’s curtains? Now wonder the Tabernacle had to be BIG. God is BIG.
