Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – January 3, Genesis 6, “What’s A Boat?”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Genesis 6) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: God inspired Moses wrote the first five books in the Bible. The very first book, Genesis, emphasizes beginnings. Beginning of the world and mankind, beginning of sin (man’s disobedience to God) and the beginning of God’s special nation.

Noah and God enjoyed a close relationship.  But you can imagine how Noah must have struggled when God told Noah to build a boat.  Noah had never seen a boat and had never seen a flood.  Imagine how you would have felt in Noah’s place.

Ask the children…

How big was the boat that Noah was to build?

““Build a large boat[c] from cypress wood[d] and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior. 15 Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high.[e] 16 Leave an 18-inch opening[f] below the roof all the way around the boat. Put the door on the side, and build three decks inside the boat—lower, middle, and upper.” (Genesis 6:14-16)

What was Noah to put into the boat and why?

“Bring a pair of every kind of animal—a male and a female—into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood.” (Genesis 6:19)

Noah obeyed God because Noah trusted God.  He trusted that God loved him and that God’s plan was a good plan even though Noah didn’t understand it.

Ask your children if they are having to trust God for something that they don’t understand or that feels too big for them?  Ask them if they are having to trust God as much as Noah did?  Imagine with them how Noah felt and how he strengthened himself because He knew God loved him.  Do the same thing for what they are having to trust God with.
