This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Genesis 15) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: God inspired Moses wrote the first five books in the Bible. The very first book, Genesis, emphasizes beginnings. Beginning of the world and mankind, beginning of sin (man’s disobedience to God) and the beginning of God’s special nation.
We don’t know the future, not even what is going to happen tomorrow, but God knows tomorrow and what is going to happen hundreds of years from now. That is a God we can trust.
Ask the children…
What did God predict would happen to Abram’s descendants?
“Then the Lord said to Abram, ‘You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years.’” (Genesis 15:13)
That foreign land was Egypt and they were slaves there for 400 years just as God predicted. Then God predicted what else would happen?
“But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth.” (Genesis 15:14)
Again, we know from history that God brought the 10 plagues on the Egyptian people and then when Abram’s descendants left, the Egyptians gave them all kinds of jewelry making them wealthy.
Ask your children if they are worried about what might happen tomorrow? God knows what is going to happen and He isn’t worried, why should we be? Tell God that because He has your tomorrows in His hands you aren’t going to worry about them.
