This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Romans 10 ) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: The apostle Paul wrote this letter to the church at Rome that he had never been to. He wrote to explain the signficance of Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross. He did this with a series of question and answers.
Paul clearly lays out the Romans what it takes to be saved.
Ask the children…
What two two things are our part in salvation?
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
What do confession and believing do?
“For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.” (Romans 10:10)
Some people wondered if they could be saved just by saying a few words. Paul says here that it goes much deeper than that. In our hearts we must truly believe what Christ did for us that we couldn’t do for ourselves and with our mouths we must declare it. In other words, our hearts must be genuine in desire and we must not be afraid to say it out loud and thereby demonstrate that our desire is genuine.
Ask your children to guess what a ‘closet christian’ is? Someone who says that they believe but won’t live out that belief in front of others. What would Paul say about closet christians? Certainly none of us live out our faith perfectly, but we try. Ask you children if they are living out their faith in front of others?
