Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – November 21, 1 Corinthians 12, “Spiritual Gifts”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (I Corinthians 12) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: Corinth was a great commercial center and Paul had planted this church in Corinth during his second missionary journey. He wrote this letter to the church at Corinth to deal with several issues the church was facing; problems of disunity, problems with immorality, problems with gifts and worship, problems with errors in teaching.

One of the greatest gifts from God believers are spiritual gifts.  The Corinthians were blessed with these gifts and Paul wrote to remind them regarding their proper use and what different gifts there were.

Ask the children…

Why did Paul say that these spiritual gifts were given to us?

” A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)

What were some of the spiritual gifts that were given to the Corinthians and to us?

“To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice[b]; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.[c] 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy.” (1 Corinthians 12:8-10)

Now these are amazing gifts.  Not like birthday or Christmas gifts that are powered by batteries and wear out, but these gifts are the very power of God put into our lives and they never wear out.  We are told that the Spirit gives at least one gift to every believer.

Ask your children if they know what their spiritual gift is?  If they are old enough, you could have them do a spiritual gift assessment and then discuss what their gift(s) might be and how to use them.  Ask God to give you discernment and the heart of a servant to use them for others. Here is a link to an online test.
