This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (2 Corinthians 1) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: Corinth was a great commercial center and Paul had planted this church in Corinth during his second missionary journey. He wrote this 2nd letter to the church to defend his apostleship and his authority in ministry.
In answer to those who questioned his apostleship and authority, Paul pointed out the suffering he had undergone on their behalf. He also pointed out that God never left him to suffer alone.
Ask the children…
What does God do when we suffer?
“For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 1:5)
What should be our attitude toward sufffering?
“We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us.” (2 Corinthians 1:7)
Two things are true. No one looks forward to suffering. God has promised to comfort us during our suffering. So we can have confidence that no suffering we undergo will miss God’s notice and He will be there for us to see us through it.
Ask your children what kind of suffering they have undergone? How do they feel about suffering? How do they think God can comfort someone during suffering? Giving them peace, bringing a friend to talk with them, taking away the pain, giving them strength to endure the pain. Thank God for His always being there for us.
