This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (2 Corinthians 1) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: Corinth was a great commercial center and Paul had planted this church in Corinth during his second missionary journey. He wrote this 2nd letter to the church to defend his apostleship and his authority in ministry.
Paul wrote to the Corinthians about churches in Macedonia that were so excited about giving to others that they begged Paul for the opportunity.
Ask the children…
Were the churches in Macedonia wealthy and was it an easy time for them?
“They (the churches in Macedonia) are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.” (2 Corinthians 8:2)
How much did the Macedonians want to give and how badly did they want to give it?
“3 For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. 4 They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem.” (2 Corinthians 8:3, 4)
Giving of what God has given to us is such a privilege. Everything we have is His any way and we are just redirecting it to other needs besides ourselves.
Ask your children if they have enough money to be able to give? How much is enough? The Macedonian church only had a little and yet they begged to give it. Find out a place where your children can give their time or their money and then do it.
