Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – November 26, Galatians 3, “Law vs. Belief”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Galatians 3) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: Paul wrote to a group of Galatian churches he had planted in order to avert disaster.  They had begun by believing in Jesus but now some of come amongst them and convinced them that only be keeping the Law could they become right with God.  Paul wrote forcefully to expose this error and to bring them back to simple and yet powerful faith in Jesus.

Paul pointed out that the promise God gave to Abraham that Abraham believed by faith, was that God would send a Son (Jesus) to lead His people to freedom.  The Law came after that and could never set people free because they were trapped in sin and could never perfectly keep the Law.  Only one person every perfectly kept the intent of the Law and that was Jesus.

Ask the children…

Does keeping the law give us all the wonderful blessings from God?

“I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law?” (Galatians 3:5)

If it wasn’t the law then why did the Galatians receive the blessings?

“Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.” (Galatians 3:5)

We live in a world that tries to control people by making them keep rules or else pay the price.  Even the church often gives out this message.  But God tells us that keeping external rules is not the answer, but letting the new heart he has given us motivate us to love ourselves and others and do what is right based upon that.

Ask your children if they have chosen to believe in Christ?  Ask them if God blesses us because we believe or because we obey the law?  What does our passage say?  We are blessed because we choose to believe by faith.  Receive those blessings by faith.
