Background: Doctor Luke wrote not only the gospel of Luke but also this additional historical account of the birth and the spread of the church by the power of the Holy Spirit of Christ. He called this book, Acts. Some call it the Acts of the Apostles or the Acts of the Holy Spirit.
When the Holy Spirit had fallen upon the believers, miracles abounded. Miracles were so common place that the Bible distinguishes “normal” miracles from other “unusual” miracles.
Ask the children…
Who gave Paul this power for unusual miracles?
“God gave Paul the power to perform unusual miracles.” (Acts 19:11)
What were these unusual miracles?
“When handkerchiefs or aprons that had merely touched his skin were placed on sick people, they were healed of their diseases, and evil spirits were expelled.” (Acts 19:12)
Paul was so full of the presence of God that anything that even touched his skin that touched someone else’s skin would cause any evil spirits to flee and diseases to be healed. Why? Because the presence of God and evil cannot be in the same place at the same time. God’s holiness dispels all evil. This was unsual because of the intensity of God’s presence that rested upon Paul.
Ask your children if they can sense God’s presence in their lives? How do they experience God’s presence? Can they sense God’s presence on anyone else? Do they sense God’s power, His peace, hear His voice, etc.? Ask God to reveal His presence to you. This presence in your lives is the most important thing about you.
