This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Luke 2) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: Luke the doctor was a missionary companion of the apostle Paul. He wrote the book of Acts also. He focuses this account of the life of Jesus on His humanity and how Jesus understands our weaknesses and cares about every need that we have.
We don’t know too much about Jesus’ younger years, but their are several amazing things that we are told.
Ask the children…
What did Luke tell us about Jesus growing up as a young man?
“There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him.” (Luke 2:40)
What did Luke emphasize a second time about Jesus growing up?
“Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people..” (Luke 2:52)
Not only was Jesus growing up from a young boy physically into manhood, but He was growing in wisdom and favor with God and other people. So Jesus was learning how to live life well from His heavenly Father and as a result God favored Him and other people were drawn to Him as well.
Ask your children what they think is important about growing up? They may say things like being strong, healthy, doing well in school, having fun, preparing for a good job. Where does learning to be wise fit in? Wisdom is ‘skill in living’. How does one get wisdom? Wisdom comes from God. We ask for it and then we apply what we learn. Ask God together to provide you with wisdom.
