Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – October 22, Luke 17, “Mustard Seed Faith”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Luke 17) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: Luke the doctor was a missionary companion of the apostle Paul. He wrote the book of Acts also. He focuses this account of the life of Jesus on His humanity and how Jesus understands our weaknesses and cares about every need that we have.

When Jesus taught the disciples what living the kingdom life really meant, they had to admit that they did not have enought faith to live that way.  The good news was that they were honest enough to admit it.

Ask the children…

What did the disciples ask Jesus?

“The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Show us how to increase our faith.'” (Luke 17:5)

And what was Jesus’ response?

“The Lord answered, ‘If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and thrown into the sea,’ and it would obey you!'” (Luke 17:6)

The disciples were looking at the size of their faith and Jesus was looking at the size and power of the one that they put their faith in.  That makes all the difference.  Even a little faith in God can transform any person or situation here on earth.  The other day I prayed for a man to have his eyes healed so that he didn’t have to have surgery.  It was the first time I felt confident in my mustard seed of faith.  And it happened.  My friends could see better and when he went to the doctor he was told that he didn’t need surgery any more.

Ask your children if they have opportunities in life that need a mustard seed of faith?  What are they?  Began practicing putting that mustard seed of faith into practice by taking those opportunities to the throne of God and see what happens.
