This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (John 1) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: The apostle John focuses on certain events that no other gospel writer’s write about (the encounter with Nicodemus, the Samaritan womant at the well, the man born blind, raising of Lazarus) for the purpose of proving that Jesus is in fact the Son of God.
The coming of Jesus is decribed differently by John to demonstrate that Jesus coming into the world changes everything.
Ask the children…
What aspects of God’s character does this scripture say is revealed in Christ?
“but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)
What else about God can be seen in Jesus?
“But the unique One, who is himself God,[g] is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.” (John 1:18 )
For the fist time in human history God can now be seen by men. Although Jesus veiled His Godhood, it could still be understood through the life of Christ. He was still the image of God. After the coming of Jesus, no one had an excuse for not being able to see God.
Many have used the excuse that they won’t believe in God unless they see Him. Ask your children in light of this scripture, how they would respond to that argument? What does this revelation about Jesus being the image of God mean to them?
