Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – October 9, Matthew 28, “Christ’s Authority”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Matthew 28 ) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: Matthew is the first book in the New Testament and was written by Matthew to carefully document that Jesus is in fact the long awaited Messiah and fulfilled all of the Old Testament prophecies.

Jesus has been beaten with a whip, hung on a cross to die and risen from the dead in order to fill all prophecy, to provide forgiveness of sine and to offer new life to those who believe.  Then He appears to His disciples and tells them something that changes the rest of their lives.

Ask the children…

What was given to Jesus as a result of His death, burial and resurrection?

“Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.’” (Matthew 28:18 )

What did Jesus ask His disciples to do as a result?

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[b] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19, 20)

Jesus acknowledged His authority over everything and He gave that same authority to His disciples so that they could go and tell everyone that they too could become followers of Christ.

Ask your children if they are a follower of Christ?  If not, share with them the Good News.  If so, ask them how much authority that they have been given and what they are going to do with that authority?  Tell Jesus what you are going to do with that authority He has given to you.
