Every child needs to know that they have a Father in heaven who loves them and that this love has always been and nothing they do can make it any more or any less.
“Long ago the Lord said to Israel:
‘I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.
With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.'” (Jeremiah 31:3)
Just as God loved the nation of Israel and was ever faithful in loving them, so He is with His children in Christ. Long ago, from before the beginning of time, God knew each one of us and loved us with His everlasting love. Before we were born, before we did one thing, God loved us.
Imagine, God’s love is everlasting and unfailing and is not dependent on our performance. NOTHING we can do can change that love and make it any larger or smaller.
Ask your children if they feel like loving their friends more when their friends treat them nicely? Ask them if they think God feels that way about us? Have them name some things they have done wrong recently and then have them say out loud to God that these things don’t change God’s love for us.
Spend some time praising God for loving us eternally and unfailingly and pray and thank God that for His love even when we fail (name those things) or when we do well (name those things).
