Hurricane Isaac- A Call To Pray

This past week the Gulf coast was hit by hurricane Isaac.  The hurricane, though not as big as hurricane Katrina, has caused major flooding with rainfall of 20″ and wind gusts of 80 mph depending on the different parts of the coast.  It is estimated that this hurricane has caused 2 billion dollars worth of insured damages.

This news can be used as an opportunity to sit down as a family and pray.  God calls us to love our neighbors and even though you may not live even remotely near to this area many of our brothers and sisters in Christ have been affected by this storm.  Many of them are probably scared and anxious because of all that they have lost.  One to way to pray for them could be inspired by this verse.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Phil. 4:6

By taking the time to pray for others it teaches children that prayer is the best response, especially when things are out of our hands.  Prayer provides a way to be involved even when we do not see how we can be.
