Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Luke: Jesus raises the son of a widow from the dead (Luke 7:11-15)
Jesus’ compassion extended to all people and knew no bounds. In this case he came upon a funeral procession for the only son of a widow. Jesus knew that this heart broken widow would now be destitute for she had no one to care for her. She had no husband and now her only son had been taken from her.
Ask the children…
How did Jesus feel about this situation?
“When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. ‘Don’t cry!’ he said.” (Luke 7:13)
What did Jesus do as a result of his compassion?
“Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. ‘Young man,’ he said, ‘I tell you, get up’ Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.” (Luke 7:14, 15)
It was not enough for Jesus to just care about a situation, He did something. That is to raise this son from the dead and give him back to his mother. She was now no longer a widow and would be cared for and loved by her son. Imagine her joy!
Point out some of the widows or single moms in your church or in your community. Ask your children what they could do to care for these women. Then go out and do it.
