Jesus modeled this parenting principle to His children of ‘taking very good care of Himself’.
“The next morning Jesus awoke long before daybreak and went out alone into the wilderness to pray.” (Mark 1:35)
So what does taking ‘very good care of your selves as parents’ look like today? Very much like what how Jesus lived His life while here on the earth.
In this passage we see that Jesus made time for intimacy with His Father. Prayer and reading the word, especially in the morning before we start the day is ‘taking very good care of yourselves’.
“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” (Luke 2:52)
Jesus took care of His physical body, His mind, His relationship with God and His relationship with people. So eating right, exercising our minds and bodies and having fun with our friends are all part of taking good care of yourselves.
Bottom line, if you want to be an happy, healthy and effective parent, Jesus Parenting Principle no. 2 says that ‘you need to take very good care of yourself’.
