Jesus wanted his followers as children of God to be confident that they could change their world in the power of Spirit.
“and you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the uttermost parts.” (Acts 1:8)
Jesus trained up his disciples just like a parent would train up their children. These were His God given children and Jesus was the perfect role model of a parent.
After Jesus had been resurrected from the dead and spent 40 days with his disciples encouraging them and revealing God’s kingdom plan, He spoke these final words from Acts 1:8.

And you know the rest of the story. This ragtag, fearful bunch, became mighty preachers and evangelists, and risked their very lives and the world has never been the same.
Every parent wants their child to make a difference. We don’t know what that will be, but our job is to instill in them the confidence and help them develop the capability to transform the world that God places them in.
