Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Mark: Jesus feeds 4,000 (Mark 8:1-9; Matthew 15:30-38)
Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Not long after Jesus fed a group of 5,000 with a few loaves and fish, He did the same thing for 4,000. This should not surprise us since people get hungry every day and Jesus was in the ministry of meeting people’s needs. Also, there were always crowds around Jesus wanting to hear Him and because these crowds were so large, they had to go out to lonely places where there was enough room for everyone but where there would be no food for purchase nearby. Ths also reminds us that Jesus healing 5,000 was no fluke, He could do this miraculous ministry whenever the need arose.
Ask the children…
How did Jesus feel about these people?
“’I feel sorry for these people. They have been here with me for three days, and they have nothing left to eat.’” (Mark 8:2)
Even after having seen Jesus feed 5,000 from a few loaves and fish, how did the disciples react to Jesus desire to feed this large crowd?
“His disciples replied, ‘How are we supposed to find enough food to feed them out here in the wilderness?'” (Mark 8:4)
How did Jesus accomplish this miracle?
“So Jesus told all the people to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves, thanked God for them, and broke them into pieces. He gave them to his disciples, who distributed the bread to the crowd. A few small fish were found, too, so Jesus also blessed these and told the disciples to distribute them.” (Mark 8:6, 7)
The disciples had seen Jesus feed 5,000 people with only a few loaves and fish, but now they were doubting His ability to do it again. Little did they know the resources available to the king of kings.
George Mueller was a man of great faith who in his lifetime, prayed in over $7 million dollars in order to feed hundreds of orphans under his care. He never asked for a penny, he just believed God and God provided day after day.
Ask your children what they are trusting God to provide. Go ahead and pray with them and wait for God’s provision and then rejoice when He provides. Then share it with other readers of this blog so we can all be blessed.
