Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Mark: Jesus heals a blind man progressively (Mark 8:22-26)
Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
As I have mentioned before, each of Jesus’ healing miracles are unique. God’s methods for healing are not confined by any rigid method, they are entirely led by the Spirit. In this particular case, Jesus had arrived at Bethsaida and a blind man’s friends had brought him to Jesus so that Jesus could touch the blind man and instantaneously heal him. Let’s see what happened.
Ask the children…
How was Jesus’ method different than other healings?
“Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then, spitting on the man’s eyes, he laid his hands on him and asked, ‘Can you see anything now?’” (Mark 8:23)
Jesus spat on this man’s eyes. He did’t just speak to the eyes to be opened. He didn’t pray out loud. He spat and then put His hands on this man’s eyes. Then Jesus asked the man a question. How did the man respond?
“The man looked around. ‘Yes,’ he said, ‘I see people, but I can’t see them very clearly. They look like trees walking around.'” (Mark 8:24)
This healing miracle was not instantaneously complete like the others we have seen Jesus do. It was progressive. There were two phases to this miracle. What was the second phase?
“Then Jesus placed his hands on the man’s eyes again, and his eyes were opened. His sight was completely restored, and he could see everything clearly.” (Mark 8:25)
What an encouragement to realize that Jesus didn’t heal everyone all at once. When we pray for healing and ask someone if they feel different or if they can do something they couldn’t do before, we shouldn’t be discouraged if they are not healed all at once. Sometimes even Jesus didn’t heal all at once. Progressive healing is in Bible and one way that Jesus healed.
The question we need to ask ourselves and our children is if we are asking God for healing of others at all. In doing this, we are doing what Jesus did and trusting God to restore people’s health. As a man said to me who was known for healing prayer, “the more people I pray for, the more chances I have to see people healed”.
