Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Luke: Jesus heals a crippled woman (Luke 13:10-17)
Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Jesus did not do miracles in order to show off His power, He did miracles in order to show His love for people. Where there was a need, He literally moved heaven and earth to meet that need. Satan on the other hand was trying to create misery for people because he hated them. Therefore we can see how many of Jesus’ miracles involved counteracting the work of Satan.
Ask the children…
What was the woman’s problem and who had caused it?
“One Sabbath day as Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, he saw a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit. She had been bent double for eighteen years and was unable to stand up straight.” (Luke 13:10, 11)
Did this woman approach Jesus or did he initiate the healing? How did Jesus address her? How did Jesus do this healing?
“When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, ‘Dear woman, you are healed of your sickness!’ Then he touched her, and instantly she could stand straight. How she praised God!” (Luke 13:12, 13)
Imagine, for 18 years you have been bent over and cannot stand up straight. Not only is it painful and hard to do the daily activities of life, but others look at you and question your relationship with God since an evil spirit is doing this to you. Jesus had compassion on all these things when he called her over to heal her. Satan could not withstand the command of Jesus. He had to release this woman the instant Jesus spoke even though he had had control over her body for 18 years. That is the power of Jesus to bring healing.
Ask the children if there is there someone they know who has been sick for a long time? Right now, pray for them and ask Jesus to heal them. Who knows if this is the prayer that will bring their healing?
