Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of John: Jesus heals a man born blind, Part 2 (John 9:1-41)
Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Jesus was constantly being harrassed by the religious leadership, the Saduccees and the Pharisees. They could not believe that Jesus was God and therefore either discounted His miracles or attributed them to Satan. They were always seeking for ways to turn people away from Jesus. On this occasion, Jesus had just finished a series of confrontations with the religous leaders. In one of these confrontations Jesus had declared Himself the “Light of the world”. This particular miracle and debate highlighted Jesus’ authority to make such a claim and the religious leaders unbelief.
Ask the children…
After Jesus finished healing the man born blind and the religious leaders heard about it, what did they complain about?
“Some of the Pharisees said, ‘This man Jesus is not from God, for he is working on the Sabbath.’” (John 9:16)
The religious leaders believed that no work could be done on the Sabbath. Because of this they couldn’t believe Jesus was from God and not just a sinner and this healing must be a trick. First they questioned the man’s parents and they said that indeed this was their son who was born blind. What did the formerly blind man say when the leaders questioned him about ?
“’I don’t know whether he is a sinner,’ the man replied. ‘But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!‘” (John 9:25)
I love this answer. I was blind before and now I can see. End of discussion! You can argue all you want but a genuine miracle has occurred in your midst and you can’t explain that away.
That is what our lives are supposed to be to the world around us. Genuinue miracles that people can’t explain except to attribute it to God. We are the greatest testimony for the truth of good news of Jesus. Ask your children what they would say to someone if they were asked why their lives are different?
