Kids Activity: An Alter For Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Altar

Genesis tells the story of how Jacob had a dream of angels on a ladder to heaven.  After the dream was over, he woke up and built an altar to glorify God as a reminder of this miraculous event.

“There he(Jacob) built an altar, and he called the place El Bethel, because it was there that God revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother”. Genesis 35:7

A great activity to do this Thanksgiving is to make a Thanksgiving altar as symbol of glorifying God for the many blessings we have received.  Here is how you can do it.  Take a chalkboard/whiteboard/large sheet of paper and write “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good”.  Have everyone write things they are grateful for on post-it notes and then put them on the sign.  This symbolically will serve as your altar of thanks to God!
