Many people today confuse Santa Claus as the reason we celebrate Christmas rather than Jesus’ birth. So a great way to show them how Santa Claus is not the real meaning of Christmas is to explain the person behind Santa Claus- St. Nicholas! Once people begin to understand the story of St. Nicholas and his love for Christ they are reminded that this holiday is and has always been about Jesus.
Check out the site below for a little reminder of who St. Nicholas was.
One of his most famous stories, which shows how St. Nicholas cared for children, is about 3 young daughters and their poor penniless father. Because they had no money and were desperate the girls were considering doing bad things in order to get money. When St. Nicholas heard about it he put 3 stocking on the fireplace, one for each girl, each containing a piece of gold! The family never worried about money again. Why did St. Nicholas do these things? Because he loved Jesus and wanted to love his neighbors.
