Kids Activity: The Power Of The Tongue

The Power of the Tongue

If your child is reaching the point where they are very comfortable with speaking it may be time to teach them about the power of the tongue.

“Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.” Proverbs 12:18

The words we say can either help encourage someone else and show them love, or they can embarrass them and hurt their feelings. Teaching your kids how the tongue can be good and bad at an early age is important because it will hopefully help them to learn to think before they speak at a young age.

Sit down with your child today and explain to them that the tongue is powerful. Help them to understand it can be like a sword which hurts people or it can be like a medicine helping people. Give examples of how the tongue can be used in both ways. Finally ask them which way they want their tongue to be used. When situations arise where your child says something unkind to give them a reminder of how they wanted to say nice things you can say “Your words are hurting me right now”. When your child does good things be sure to reaffirm them telling them how much you appreciate their words.
