Kids Cook: Making The Soup For Esau

Jacob and Esau Soup

Do your kids love to help you out in the kitchen? The next time you and your kids are making soup together is a great chance to tell the story of Jacob and Esau.  The story of Esau selling his birthright to Jacob is perfect for this moment because it all happened for a bowl of soup. Church House Collection has come up with this fun and interactive activity!

Brush up on the Bible story by reading Genesis 25:21-34.  Instead of reading this chapter while you are cooking engage your children through telling it to them with your own words and tone of voice.

This kids cooking moment can work with any kind of soup from a simple can of chicken noodle soup to your families’ secret recipe.

If you want to do this with kids at sunday school this could also be a great craft! When reading the story to the kids, hand each child their own bowl of soup and have them imagine what it would be like to be starving.  Then have them smell the soup, would they give up their favorite toy in order to stop from starving? Interactive is always a plus when working with kids!

If you like what you read, check out our children’s book, Hooked on the Book, on this website.  It is great for parents and kids because it provides the Big Story of God’s miraculous plan for His children in all 66 books in the Bible including colorful illustrations, rhymes and a surprise on every page.
