Paul is accused by the Jewish leaders of wrongdoing. In a Roman court Paul has appealed his case to Caesar and as a result is being taken under armed guard by ship to Rome. Along the way when the weather was getting bad God gave a miraculous warning through Paul.
Ask the children?
What was the warning that Paul gave?
” ‘Men,’ he said, ‘I believe there is trouble ahead if we go on—shipwreck, loss of cargo, and danger to our lives as well.’” (Acts 27:10)
Did the Roman officer listen to him?
“But the officer in charge of the prisoners listened more to the ship’s captain and the owner than to Paul.” (Acts 27:11)
What happened as a result?
“But the weather changed abruptly, and a wind of typhoon strength (called a “northeaster”) burst across the island and blew us out to sea.” (Acts 27:14)
God knows everything that is going to happen. Just as He spoke to Paul and warned Paul, so God is speaking to our hearts. Sometimes we call it a gut feeling, other times it might be a real voice speaking to us. We are taught through our normal educational system to evaluate everything with our minds, but if we only do that we miss out on listening with our spirits.
Children’s minds and hearts are so open. Ask them how God speaks to them? You might be surprised by what they say. Keep an eye out for situations where the family is in need of guidance and call your children to pray and listen to God together. Expect an answer and ask the children what they think God is saying. Then thank God for the answer.
