Today let’s focus on teaching kids a Bible miracle from the book of Acts. God miraculously prophesies through Paul of safety for all from a coming shipwreck. (Acts 27:1-42)
Paul is accused by the Jewish leaders of wrong. In a Roman court Paul has appealed his case to Caesar and as a result is being taken under armed guard by ship to Rome. Along the way when they were battered by a terrible storm and all hope is lost, Paul gives one and then another prophecy of shipwreck and safety for all aboard.
Ask the children?
What was the second warning that Paul gave?
“No one had eaten for a long time. Finally, Paul called the crew together and said, ‘Men, you should have listened to me in the first place and not left Crete. You would have avoided all this damage and loss. 22 But take courage! None of you will lose your lives, even though the ship will go down.’” (Acts 27:21, 22)
Who told Paul this prophecy?
“‘For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me, 24 and he said, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar! What’s more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.’'” (Acts 27:23, 24)
Did the prophecy come true?
“Then he (the captain) ordered all who could swim to jump overboard first and make for land. 44 The others held on to planks or debris from the broken ship.[g] So everyone escaped safely to shore.” (Acts 27:43, 44)
When God says something is going to happen we can trust Him. Even if that means that all 276 on board will be saved, even those who can’t swim.
Ask your kids if there are any promises of God are hard for them to trust? For example, “I will never lead or forsake you”, “Go will supply all your needs”. Ask them what is the next thing they need to do to trust God? Pray for their faith to step out and trust God.
