Today let’s focus on teaching kids a Bible miracle from the book of Acts. A prophecy is made that if Paul travels to Jerusalem he will be captured and bound. (Acts 21:10-14)
Paul leaves Ephesus and begins his journey back to Jerusalem. Along the way he stops in Caesarea. There he encounters a prophet named Agabus.
Ask the children?
What did Agabus prophecy would happen to Paul in Jerusalem?
“Several days later a man named Agabus, who also had the gift of prophecy, arrived from Judea. 11 He came over, took Paul’s belt, and bound his own feet and hands with it. Then he said, ‘The Holy Spirit declares, ‘So shall the owner of this belt be bound by the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem and turned over to the Gentiles.”” (Acts 21:10, 11)
How did the believers respond?
“When we heard this, we and the local believers all begged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem.” (Acts 21:12)
How did Paul respond and who did He put His faith in?
“But he said, ‘Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but even to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus.’ 14 When it was clear that we couldn’t persuade him, we gave up and said, ‘The Lord’s will be done.’”(Acts 21:13, 14)
God miraculously spoke through Agabus exactly what would happen to Paul and the people believed him. Trouble is they thought they had Paul’s best interest in mind by encouraging him not to go to Jerusalem. But to Paul’s way of thinking, these bonds were all part of God’s greater plan and He was willing to go through any hardship to do God’s work.
Ask your children, what hardship are they going through right now? There are some hardships we should try to avoid, but not the one’s God puts in our journey. Pray and ask God for wisdom what kind of hardship this is, what they should do about it, and the miraculous faith to trust God and His will.
