Kid’s Devotionals on Parables – Clear The Way For Jesus, Part 1

Jesus Christ

Today let’s teach a kid’s devotional from the Gospel parables (stories). God speaks through John the Baptist for the people to clear the way for the coming of Jesus. (Luke 3:4-6)

John the Baptist came out of the wilderness preaching about a coming savior and that the people need to be prepared.  He said there were many obtacles in their path.

“He is a voice shouting in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming!
Clear the road for him!'” (Luke 3:4)

John quoted the prophet Isaiah when he said these words.

Ask the children …

What obtstacles were in the road there that were keeping people from coming to Jesus?

“The valleys will be filled” (Luke 3:5a)

Valleys often refer to being in a place that we could not possibly climb out of on our own.  And so we are when we are far off from God because of our sin.  We could never make ourselves acceptable to God.  We are in a valley of despair of ever being in a relationship with God if we have to work it out on our own.

However these “valleys” will be filled up.  Who will fill them up?  God will.  Jesus will come and do this on our behalf.  He will live a perfect life.  He will carry our sin to the cross and die for it.  He will defeat satan and rise from the dead to give us new life.

Ask your children if they have any valleys in their lives that need to be filled up by Jesus?  Pray with them over these things.
