Ask the children …
What did John call Jesus and why?
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’” (John 1:29)
You might remember that in the Old Testament sacrificial system a spotless lamb was slain once a year by the high priest on behalf of the people to remove their sins. This was the same picture that John had of Jesus who was coming to live a sinless life, and to be led to slaughter like a lamb to take the sin of the world upon Himself.
This was a completely new concept to the Jewish people that a man could be the lamb of God for them. The people would have gasped when they heard this.
What they didn’t understand at the time was that Jesus would be able to lead a sinless life and could be worthy to be the spotless sacrificial lamb 0nce and for all.
Ask your children what they think of when they hear that Jesus is the lamb of God? How does that cause them to think of Jesus differently? Remind them that how they think about Jesus is the most important thing that will determine what they become.
