Kid’s Devotions For Lent (Day 18) – Jesus Welcomes Childlike Faith

Lent is the season of preparation for Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts through Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). Traditionally, Christians have observed Lent by devotion, fasting, repenting, and giving. We can invite our children to join us as we observe this season, as we prepare our hearts and our lives for Easter.

Thanks to Kimberlee Conway Ireton for her plan that I used to develop these Kid’s Devotions.

As we get closer to the Easter story, Jesus reminds us that He welcomes all with childlike hearts.

Ask the children…

What did the disciples do and why? Why did Jesus stop them?

“One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.14 When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” 16 Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.’” (Matthew 10:13-16)

The disciples thought that Jesus didn’t want to be bothered with little children.  They thought that adults were more important.  But Jesus was focused on people’s hearts, not their age.  Little children tend to have open and honest childlike faith.  Jesus told the disciples that everyone must enter the kingdom by faith and enjoy His blessings by faith.

Ask your children what childlike faith means to them?  How have they expressed that kind of faith recently?  Remind them that Jesus wants to bless them and draw them close and through their childlike faith they will experience His blessings.
