Kid’s Devotions For Lent (Day 25) – Rejoicing In Finding The Lost

Lent is the season of preparation for Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts through Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). Traditionally, Christians have observed Lent by devotion, fasting, repenting, and giving. We can invite our children to join us as we observe this season, as we prepare our hearts and our lives for Easter.

Thanks to Kimberlee Conway Ireton for her plan that I used to develop these Kid’s Devotions.http://www.stchristophers-mn.org/storage/files/family-devotions-for-lent.pdf

As we get closer to the Easter, Jesus told a parable (story) to His followers to explain that in the Kingdom His followers would rejoice over finding those that had strayed from God.

Ask the children…

What had been lost? How hard did the woman search?

“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[a] and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it?” (Luke 15:8 )

What was her reaction when she found the coin?  How does God react when one of His lost children are found and turn back to Him?

“And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’ 10 In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.” (Luke 15:9, 10)

Ask your children when was the last time they lost something that was important?  How did they feel when they found it?  Ask them if they know someone that is lost and far from God?  Ask them how God feels about that person?  Stop and pray with your children to have the same heart toward this person that God does and ask God what they can do to work with God as He draws this person back to Himself.
