Kids’ Devotions For Lent (Day 29) – Press Into Jesus

Lent is the season of preparation for Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts through Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). Traditionally, Christians have observed Lent by devotion, fasting, repenting, and giving. We can invite our children to join us as we observe this season, as we prepare our hearts and our lives for Easter.

Thanks to Kimberlee Conway Ireton for her plan that I used to develop these Kid’s Devotions.

As we get closer to the Easter, we are minded that the time of Christ’s sacrifice for us is drawing nearer.  Those vows we have made encourage us to draw nearer to Jesus in His sacrifice for us.

Ask the children…

Good Friday is only 17 days away.  According to this passage, what do we need to be doing in this last few days?

“In just a short time he will restore us,
so that we may live in his presence.
Oh, that we might know the Lord!
Let us press on to know him.”
(Hosea 6:2, 3)

Hosea told the nation of Israel if they would only turn to God from their wicked ways, God would restore them and they could know Himi and live in His presence.  His presence meant peace and rest and refreshment.

Jesus offers us the same as we enter into the rest of His crucifixion and resurrection.  Our Lenten vows remind us that every day we can make the choice to live in Jesus’ presence and rest or we can try to do it on our own.

Ask your children how they are doing on their Lenten vows?  Are they hard to keep?  Do they need the strength of Christ’s Holy Spirit to keep them?  Encourage them to press into Jesus today and ask Jesus to give them the strength to keep their vows.  The vows themselves are not what is important, it is the pressing into Jesus and trusting in Him to give us what we need that is important.
