Kid’s Devotions For Lent (Day 33) – Healing By Jesus

Lent is the season of preparation for Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts through Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). Traditionally, Christians have observed Lent by devotion, fasting, repenting, and giving. We can invite our children to join us as we observe this season, as we prepare our hearts and our lives for Easter.

Thanks to Kimberlee Conway Ireton for her plan that I used to develop these Kid’s Devotions.http://www.stchristophers-mn.org/storage/files/family-devotions-for-lent.pdf

As we get closer to the Easter, we are reminded that Jesus has come to heal us.

Ask the children…

How do you think Peter’s mother-in-law felt when Jesus touched her and the fever left her?

“When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. 15 But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him.” (Matthew 8:14)

What other sicknesses did Jesus heal?

“That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick. 17 This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said,

‘He took our sicknesses
and removed our diseases.'”  (Matthew 8:15, 16)

Jesus came to restore people from the ravages of sin.  Sin not only caused the spirit of man to die but also allowed sickness and diseases into the world that would eventually kill every man.  Jesus came to heal two kinds of sicknesses.  (1)  He healed dead spirits by giving spiritual life to His followers; (2) He promised that when we physically die He would raise up our bodies to live forever in heaven with Him.  When he healed people on earth from sickness it just showed His compassion on them and that He had the power to heal sickness here on earth and in heaven.

Ask your children how they feel when they are sick?  Ask them to imagine how it will feel in heaven when there is no more sickness and disease?  Thank Jesus for the healing that He provides now and in heaven.
