Lent is the season of preparation for Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts through Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). Traditionally, Christians have observed Lent by devotion, fasting, repenting, and giving. We can invite our children to join us as we observe this season, as we prepare our hearts and our lives for Easter.
Thanks to Kimberlee Conway Ireton for her plan that I used to develop these Kid’s Devotions.http://www.stchristophers-mn.org/storage/files/family-devotions-for-lent.pdf
As we get closer to the Easter, we are reminded that Jesus can even raise the dead.
Ask the children…
Jairus, the leader of the Synagogue, had come to Jesus asking Him to heal his sick daughter. Jesus in the meantime was talking to a woman who had touched His cloak and been healed. What news did the messengers bring to Jairus?
“While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him, ‘Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.’” (Mark 5:35)
What did Jesus tell Jairus to do? What miracle did Jesus do?
“But Jesus overheard[d] them and said to Jairus, ‘Don’t be afraid. Just have faith’… Holding her hand, he said to her, ‘Talitha koum,’ which means ‘Little girl, get up!’ 42 And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! They were overwhelmed and totally amazed.” (Mark 5:36, 41, 42)
We think death is the end. No one can do anything about it. But Jesus is the King of the Universe and He can reverse even death if He desires.
Ask your children if there is anything too hard for Jesus to do? Ask them if there is something in their lives that they are struggling to trust Jesus with? Have them tell Jesus out loud what they need, just like Jairus did. Have them speak their trust in Jesus out loud and commit to have faith in Him in this situation.
