Kid’s Devotions On Parables – Sparrows And Hairs

Jesus

Jesus told a parable (story) about how valuable God’s children are to Him by using the example of how He cares for sparrows and counts their hairs. What did he mean by this? (Matthew 10:29-31)

Jesus was telling His followers what they must do.  But they were afraid how people would respond to them.  Jesus told this parable to encourage them.

Ask the children…

What does this parable tell us about how God feels about even a single sparrow and therefore how He feels about us?

“What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin[k]? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.” (Matthew 10:29)

What does this parable tell us about how God cares about even the hairs of our head that will soon fall out and therefore how He feels about our whole being?

30 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows..’” (Matthew 10:30, 31)

Jesus encouraged His followers that they are so valuable to God.  No matter where they go or what happened to them, God would be with them and always caring for them.

Ask your children if they know how much God cares for them?  Does that give them comfort when they are in a difficult spot?  Pray with them and remind them of God’s love and claim that love for any difficulty they are experiencing.
