Words of Affirmation is one of the five love languages a person can give or receive. An example of a person giving words of affirmation to show a person how much they really care is, “Hey you are just so amazing!”, “You did such a great job!”, or “You look so beautiful!”. If you respond to these kinds of encouragements then you could might receive words of affirmation as love. For a person who receives love through words they will need to hear “I love you” often.
On the flip side, if a person is verbally harrassed or put down they might be more devastated by the encounter than someone else. “I hate you” could be very painful.
