One Year Study Through The Bible For Kids – March 12, Judges 21

No King For the Israelites

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Judges 21) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: After the nation of Israel took control of the Promised Land, Joshua their leader died and the 12 tribes were left to completely conquer their remaining enemies in the lands they had been allotted. The 12 tribes fell away from worshipping God and God therefore allowed their enemies to defeat them. Because Israel refused God as their King, everyone did whatever they wanted and the results were disastrous.

Ask the children…

The very last verse in the book of Judges tells us what about the Israelite people?

“In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.” (Judges 21:25)

First it tells us that Israel had no king. In other words, they had rejected God as their king.  They didn’t trust God and didn’t want to answer to His authority.  Second, we see that without any authority everyone became a king unto themselves and they did whatever they wanted.  How do you think that worked out for them?  God left them and their enemies defeated them and took them captive.

Ask your children how it works out for them when they ignore those in authority over them?  Teachers, parents, coaches, etc.  God has blessed us with authorities in our lives to give us guidance for our own good.  Pray with your children and thank God for the authorities in their lives and pray for each of these authorities for wisdom to lead well.
