One Year Study Thru The Bible For Children – April 10, 2 Kings 11,12

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (2 Kings 11, 12) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: During the period of Israel’s history when the nation was divided in two and the kings who ruled were generally evil, God did not leave His people without a testimony to His presence and power. The evil queen mother Athaliah took over rule of kingdom of Judah (southern kingdom) when her son Ahaziah died.  She proceeded to kill all the royal line.  But Jehoida the priest rescued one son named Joash and crowned him the king.

Ask the children…

How old was Joash when he was crowned king?

“Joash was seven years old when he became king.” (2 Kings 11:21)

Joash reigned for 40 years.  What did Joash do and who helped him?

“All his life Joash did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight because Jehoiada the priest instructed him. ” (2 Kings 12:2)

Ask your children how they would feel if they were crowned king or queen when they were 7 years old?  Ask them how they would feel if they had a trusted advisor to train them and to give them wise counsel like Joash had Jehoida?  Remind them that if they know Jesus they are the children of the King and as such they have been given parents and best of all the Holy Spirit to give them guidance for right living.  Rejoice together in the trusted advisors that we have been given.

Feel free to share your own stories below in the comments section.
