Background: The book of Chronicles was written to encourage God’s people who had been exiled to Babylon and were wondering if God was still for them. This section of Chronicles describes King David’s preparations to build the temple for God and David’s words to his son Solomon encouraging to perform the construction after David’s death.
Ask the children…
What encouragement and instruction did King David give to his son Solomon?
“”Now, my son, may the Lord be with you and give you success as you follow his directions in building the Temple of the Lord your God.’” (1 Chronicles 22:11)
David told Solomon that God would be with him and would give him instruction on how to build the temple and success in doing it. What warning did King David give to Solomon?
“Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or lose heart!” (1 Chronicles 22:13)
King David knew that this was a HUGE task and that there were be foreign enemies who would make threats and take away Solomon’s confidence and that there would be times that Solomon would doubt himself. For this Solomon would need to be strong and courageous and not lose his heart. What wise words for a father to give to his son.
Ask your children what is causing them to lose heart. Remind them that God is with them in their tasks and wants to give them the courage they need. Stop and look them in the eye and speak to them these words of David. Rejoice and sing a favorite song of victory in the Lord.
