This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (2 Chronicles 30) while we focus in on just a few verses.
Background: The second book of Chronicles was written to encourage God’s people who had been exiled to Babylon and were wondering if God was still for them. King Hezekiah turned his heart to the Lord and asked His people to return to the Lord also. Let’s see how some responded.
Ask the children…
What did King Hezekiah encourage the people to do and why?
“For if you return to the Lord, your relatives and your children will be treated mercifully by their captors, and they will be able to return to this land. For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful. If you return to him, he will not continue to turn his face from you.” (2 Chronicles 30:9)
How did most of the people respond?
“But most of the people just laughed at the runners and made fun of them.” (2 Chronicles 30:10)
King Hezekiah encouraged the people to repent because it was good for them and for the nation but many people were blind to their condition and laughed. Isn’t that the way that many in world respond to the good news of Jesus? They are blinded and think that Christianity is not what they need and laugh at believers.
Ask your children if anyone has ever made fun of them for their faith? How did it make them feel? How did they respond? Remind them that Jesus was hung on a cross for the message that He brought. It is sad, but not surprising. Pray for peace for your children and the willingness to be true to their faith even it they get made fun of.
