One Year Study Thru The Bible For Children – April 9, 2 Kings 6

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (2 Kings 6) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: During the period of Israel’s history when the nation was divided in two and the kings who ruled were generally evil, God did not leave His people without a testimony to His presence and power. He sent them prophets. One of the prophets was named Elisha and he did many miracles to show God’s compassion on His people and to show God’s power.  Let’s look at one of those miracles.

Ask the children…

The King of Aram mobilized his forces to destroy the King of Israel.  But God showed Elisha the prophet where the King of Aram would go next and he warned the King of Israel every time.  When the King of Aram found out about this, he was furious and decided to kill Elisha and was able to trap Elisha and his servant in the city of Dothan.  Elisha’s servant went out one morning and all he could see was the King of Aram’s forces surrounding the city.  How did Elisha’s servant react?

“When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:15)

What was Elisha’s response and what did God open up the servant’s eyes to see?

““Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” 17 Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.” (2 Kings 6:16)

When we are in God’s army, there are always greater and more powerful forces on our side.  We just need to have the eyes to see it like Elisha’s servant.

Ask your children what is the scariest thing that is going on in their lives?  Remind them that the heavenly armies are on their side to fight for them.  Pray with your children that God will open up their eyes to see the heavenly armies that are doing battle for them and that that will give them boldness and peace.
