Background: After the nation of Israel conquered their Promised Land, Joshua and the people divide it up amongst the 12 tribes in obedience to God. At the end of this section of scripture, there is a wonderful reminder of the faithfulness of God to keep His promises.
Ask the children…
What promise did the Lord keep?
“So the Lord gave to Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. ” (Joshua 21:43)
What additional promise did the Lord keep here?
“And the Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had solemnly promised their ancestors. ” (Joshua 21:44)
How many of God’s promises did He fulfill?
“Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.” (Joshua 21:45)
God is a promise keeper. Whatever He promised to Israel, he kept. God is no different today. Every promise He makes in His word He will keep.
Ask your children if they are trusting God for any promises today? If they can’t think of any, you might read to them several of these promises; Jeremiah 29:11, Matthew 28:11, 12; Isaiah 40:29-31; Philippians 4:19; Romans 8:37-39. Ask them which of these promises do they need to trust in today. Begin to memorize it together and claim it every day this week as a start to your promise land adventure.
