This last weekend I watched the new movie “The Lucky One”. It was a sweet love story with a heart warming plot, but during the movie there were two sex scenes. Though it did not “show” anything, I was shocked at how suggestive/graphic it was for a PG-13 movie. I would definitely not want my 13 year old watching that.
After watching that movie I realized that as parents you have a big task! The world is constantly treating young teens as adults and telling them that sex is no big deal. How sad!
The only reason I am writing this blog is to encourage you to think it through! Don’t just assume that PG-13 means that the movie is going to be clean. Do some research first. Check out Plugged In, by Focus on the Family, or maybe see it first.
Another suggestion is if you are at home watching the movie just fast forward through those parts. Don’t just assume that your kids can handle it. By you saying its not ok, hopefully they will be able to recognize that its not ok when you are not there.
Being a parent is hard, sometimes you come off as the bad guy. Just remember why you are doing it-you love your kids and want the best for them. You can do it!
