Standing In The Gap

Standing In The Gap

My question is “Who will stand in the gap for this generation who are running headlong in their destructive ways?”

Recently my wife and I have found ourselves in several situations where friends who are Christian husbands or wives are leaving their marriages and justifying it by saying “I deserve to happy”.  Now they couch it behind religious terms and Bible verses they have cherry picked to prove their point, but in the end of the day, it is all about them.

Unfortunately, when it is time to lovingly confront these unbiblical approaches to divorce, the Christian community either shies away from speaking any truth or worse yet labels those that do as judgmental or intolerant.

God said, “I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. (Ezekiel 22:30) God is looking for those warriors who will stand up in the face of evil for what is right.  It is not intolerance, it is loving.

We as parents, can teach our children that real love towards one another when those we love go astray, means to go to them and speak to them of what is God’s best is for them.  Even if they don’t like what they hear, we have planted a seed of truth that the Holy Spirit can water and cause to bear the fruit of righteousness.

If you like what you read, check out our children’s book, Hooked on the Book, on this website.  It is great for parents and kids because it provides the Big Story of God’s miraculous plan for His children in all 66 books in the Bible including colorful illustrations, rhymes and a surprise on every page.
