Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Jonah: The miracle of the great fish that swallows Jonah and saves him. (Jonah 2)
Jonah had been called by God to go and preach repentance to Nineveh, the capital city of Israel’s enemy, Assyria. Jonah hated the Assyrians and fled from God by getting on a ship that was headed for Tarshish. God caused a great storm to arise and the only way to stop it from destroying the ship and everyone on it was to throw Jonah overboard. When the sailors did this, the storm stopped. Let’s see what happened to Jonah.
Ask the children…
What did God do to save Jonah?
“Now the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.” (Jonah 2:1)
How did Jonah respond to the Lord?
“When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.” (Jonah 2:7)
How did God respond to Jonah’s cry of repentance?
“So the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.” (Jonah 2:10)
God was willing to listen to Jonah when he realized that fighting God was futile and he gave himself over to whatever God wanted. God could even speak to a fish and cause the fish to do His will. Isn’t our God amazing?
Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world. Glory to Him!!!
