Teaching Children About Bible Miracles – A Servant’s Eyes Are Opened

Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God.  If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today.  Here is an easy way to do that interactively.

Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of 2 Kings:   A servant’s eyes are opened. (2 Kings 6:8-17)

This is one of my favorite Bible miracles because it is a double miracle.  I have broken up the miracles into two blogs.

The king of Aram was chasing after the king of Israel.  The problem for the king of Aram was that God would tell Elisha where the king of Aram was going next and Elisha would tell the king of Israel.  When the king of Aram found out what Elisha was doing, he was furious.  He found out Elisha was in the city of Dothan and the king took his forces and surrounded the city in order to kill Elisha.

Ask the children…

Elisha prophet

What did Elisha’s servant see when he got up and looked around the city?

“When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. ‘Oh, sir, what will we do now?’ the young man cried to Elisha.”  (2 Kings 6:15)

What did Elisha pray for and what did his servant see?

“’Don’t be afraid!’ Elisha told him. ‘For there are more on our side than on theirs!’ Then Elisha prayed, ‘O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!’ The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.  (2 Kings 6:16, 17)

Elisha knew there was a heavenly force surrounding the city that was much greater than the king of Aram’s force.  He prayed that his servant could see how God was protecting them.  Notice again how God uses chariots of fire just like the one that whisked Elijah off to heaven.  God is always with us to protect us.  Let’s ask God to open up our eyes to see His involvement in our lives today.

Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world.  Glory to Him!!!
