Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of 1 Samuel: David defeats Goliath (1 Samuel 17)
After Saul is rejected as king by God, Samuel is directed to anoint David as the next king. David was still a young man, too young to be part of Israel’s army as they fight the Philistines. 3 of David’s brothers were in Saul’s army and were waiting to fight the Philistines. David’s father Jesse sends him out to bring food to his older brothers and to find out how they are doing. What David finds is that the Philistines have a champion named Goliath who comes out each day asking for a fight with a single Israelite.
Ask the children…
What did David have for weaponry against the giant warrior Goliath?
“He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:40)
How did Goliath respond to his young foe?
“’Am I a dog,’ he roared at David, ‘that you come at me with a stick?’ And he cursed David by the names of his gods.” (1 Samuel 17:43)
Where did David get his confidence for victory?
“’Today the LORD will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head.’” (1 Samuel 17:46)
What was the miracle that God performed that day?
“Reaching into his shepherd’s bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it with his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on the ground.” (1 Samuel 17:49)
God used the skills and confidence that He had given David to do this miracle of killing Goliath. He wants to use our unique skills today to do His work.
Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world. Glory to Him!!!
